4Roots Campus

Located in Orlando’s Packing District, the 4Roots Campus is designed to provide immersive, hands-on learning opportunities that showcase innovative sustainable practices and cutting-edge technologies from across the globe. Construction began in 2021 and is set to be completed and fully operational by late 2026.
This project embodies a deep commitment to sustainability and community-driven design. With a focus on native and Florida-friendly plant species, the landscape showcases a blend of both beauty and functionality. Key plants include wax myrtles, swamp twinflower, sand cordgrass, bald cypress, magnolias, live oaks, and muhly grass. These selections not only thrive in Florida’s climate but also support biodiversity and minimize resource use. Ground covers like frogfruit and perennial peanut were strategically incorporated to control weeds naturally, eliminating the need for pesticides or herbicides and reinforcing the project’s eco-friendly ethos. A remarkable feature is the edible landscape, which integrates plants like green sugarcane, Ice Cream Banana, raspberries, and peaches, laying the groundwork for a flourishing food forest. While the food forest installation was outsourced, we provided expert consultation to ensure its success.
Designed by Dix.Hite and brought to life through collaborative efforts, 4Roots is more than a landscape, but a story of sustainability, innovation, and resourcefulness. As part of the entrance redesign, we offered insights to optimize costs, maximizing the impact of grant funding while honoring the mission of this non-profit initiative. The result is a space that inspires and serves its community, balancing beauty, environmental stewardship, and functionality. From native plants to edible gardens, 4Roots demonstrates how thoughtful design can create a lasting legacy of sustainability.
