OUR FARM

Growing for the present and future

GROWING QUALITY
PLANT MATERIAL FOR GENERATIONS

Our farm is at the heart of who we are at Cherrylake. Since our founding over 30 years ago, we have researched, developed, and implemented the leading practices in horticulture to grow trees that not only look beautiful, but also have optimal performance after transplant. Through collaboration, we partner with industry members, clients and stakeholders to ensure the success and functionality of landscapes today and into the future.

A FOCUS ON
PLANT HEALTH

A healthy plant is one that is equipped to be strong, vigorous, and long-living once planted in the landscape. From finding the optimum nutrient balance to preventative pest management to root pruning, Cherrylake’s Plant Health program is carefully executed by dedicated employees and expert teams.

MORE THAN
TREES, SHRUBS, & PALMS

Every client and every project is unique. Our customer order fulfillment is built around lean management and reliable processes so that we can consistently provide customers with a superior experience and added value. From hand selecting each individual tree and same day loading options, to relationships with outsourcing plant vendors and trucking vendors, our order fulfillment process is designed with our clients in mind.

RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

Creating progress through sustainability and innovation

WATER MANAGEMENT

We have grown the number of plants we produce by 15% while reducing our water usage by 47%. We have accomplished this with focus, training and an investment in new technologies that include VFD pressure regulation technology, emitter conversion and the expansion of our water checker team.

PLANT PALETTE

Native and Florida-friendly plant material is vital to preserving biodiversity. We have grown natives since the beginning including Bald Cypress, Live Oaks, and Southern Magnolias, and we continue to expand our plant palette to include more Florida native and Florida-friendly plants. You can see all of our products here.

REUSABLE MATERIALS

With an ability to reuse the same container for more than 20 years, the use of Air-Pot® for our production crops significantly reduces our plastic consumption compared to traditional container nurseries. Moving away from disposable bamboo, when staking trees, we utilize reusable metal stakes, PVC pipes, and wire rings.

COLLABORATION

We believe in the intersection of academia, industry, and government to shift Florida toward more sustainable landscapes through a collaborative forum, the sharing of best practices, and showcasing innovative projects and trends. Through OUTSIDE Collab, Cherrylake and other founding members are creating these pathways to enhance responsible leadership in our state and industry.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

Our responsibility as stewards of the environment is ever present and fuels our continuous innovation. Exciting initiatives our team is working on include composting, enhanced stormwater management, bat house programs, and increased pollinator habitats.

IT STARTS
WITH THE ROOTS

We have trialed and experimented with many different growing systems and techniques, partnered with leading research institutions, and helped pioneer the Reason 7 standards for certified container trees. We are committed to providing a quality root system that has lateral, fibrous outward roots that are ready to anchor into native soil and immediately feed the healthy growth of the plants for years to come.
